Built between 1949 and 1951 in Rosettenville, south of Johannesburg, Rand Stadium carries deep sporting history. In 1976 it hosted a landmark multi-racial South African national football fixture against Argentina, played under the banner of an ‘International XI’ to sidestep FIFA’s apartheid-era ban. It later staged the 2009 Nedbank Cup final between Moroka Swallows and University of Pretoria, and welcomed Bafana Bafana against Mauritius in 1993. Home in its day to Highlands Park and Germiston Callies, the ground has also hosted touring sides like Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam, plus international boxing. Now a modern all-seater venue, it has kept its old scoreboard for heritage’s sake and offers hospitality suites, conference rooms and stadium tours.
